Mandeville, Louisiana

Winnie Lee “Toonie” Aydell Arceneaux, age 97, a native of French Settlement, Louisiana and a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana passed away on July 14, 2024. She was born on April 11, 1927 in French Settlement, Louisiana to Edlee Willis Aydell and Rosa Vicknair Aydell. She resided in New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana for 78 years. She was a resident at Roquette Lodge in Mandeville, Louisiana for the last 19 years.

She graduated from French Settlement High School and Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a Civil Service employee for the US Navy and The Veterans Administration, and was also employed at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She was an avid fan of New Orleans Saints and the Tulane Green Waves. She was a member of The French Settlement Historical Society. She loved to read and talk politics, but most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Arceneaux Trapani of Winston Salem, North Carolina, her son, John Randall “Randy” Arceneaux (Loretta), and her stepdaughter, Lorraine Arceneaux Castillon, all of Mandeville, Louisiana.

Also survived by six grandchildren: Robert Trapani, Jr., Stephanie Trapani, Aimee Rudd (Jason), Katelyn Clark (Dereck), John Arceneaux, and Brandy Catalano, along with 11 great-grandchildren: Landon Smith, Alexis “Lexi” and Dylan Lovelace, Grayson Slate, Skye Stilley, Hudson, Cooper and Griffin Rudd, Liam Clark, and Maddox and Cruz Grainer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert John Arceneaux, Sr., parents, Edlee Willie Aydell and Rosa Vicknair Aydell, her son, Joey John Arceneaux, her stepsons, Ernest Joseph Arceneaux and SP4 Herbert “Pookie” John Arceneaux Jr. (Vietnam), her siblings; Verdie Aydell, Myna Aydell, Willard “Bill” Aydell, Chestine Aydell Schexnaider, Ena Mae Aydell Moore, Leon Aydell, and Eula “Tookie” Aydell LeBrun.

Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W Causeway Approach, Mandeville, Louisiana 70471, on Wednesday July 24, 2024. Visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.

Pallbearers, Randy and John Arceneaux, Rob Trapani, Dylan Lovelace, and Nick and Jonathon LeBrun.

The Eulogy will be delivered by Brian Cordes, great-nephew of Winnie.

A private Burial will be conducted, following cremation, at St. Roch #2 Cemetery, in New Orleans, Louisiana on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
