William Joseph Warner, Jr. passed away on July 28 th , 2024. He was 92 years old. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by love both near and afar.

Born and raised in the Carrollton neighborhood of New Orleans, he was a proud graduate of Redemptorist High School and Loyola University, and a United States Marine combat veteran of the Korean War. He continued to serve the public during a distinguished 43-year career in law enforcement, first with the New Orleans Police Department and later with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he was Chief of Detectives. Never one to rest on his laurels, he joined the United States Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) where he was the oldest person to complete their basic training, earning him the moniker “Pop”. BNDD later merged with other Federal narcotics agencies to become the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Upon retiring after 20 years with the Federal government he served several years with the Mobile County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office. Retired life didn’t suit him, so he returned to work with the Lafayette Group. When he finally did retire, he spent time between Covington, Louisiana and Panama City, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Warner, Sr. and Edna Pauline (Morgan), Kathlyn Mae “Kate” (Foley) his high school sweetheart and wife of 69 years, as well as his sister, Patricia “Paddy” Dewey. He is survived by his brothers Tommy and Wayne (Kathy); seven children: Bill (Annette), Pat (Gigi), Tim (Kerry), Janice Hawkins (Joe), Shannon (Lisa), Dan (Gina) and Brian (Lisa); 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Abbey, Covington, Louisiana at 2pm on Friday August 9, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1pm and burial will follow the service.
