William Taber III

William Audley Taber III of Mandeville, Louisiana, age 68 passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, on May 22, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Mona Aldige Taber (Minge) and William Audley Taber Jr. Bill is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Sara Lewis Taber, his loving sister Katherine Taber O’Dwyer and his brother Thomas A. Taber of Covington, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his sister Anne Taber Katz of Reston, Virginia. Bill leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their children, Rhett O’Dwyer Ross (Payton) and children Peyton, Kaitlyn and Cole. Ashley O’Dwyer Day (Jeff) and children (Anna and Baker). William Ryan O’Dwyer and Kathaleen Taber O’Dwyer. Niece Lisa Aldige Taber. Bill is also survived by his loving step children Carrie Prieto Segrave (Charlie) and children (Adam, Phillip and Karly and baby Rowan), Jacob (Katie) and son Logan, Don S. Prieto and children (Katheryn Prieto Cassidy (Chris), baby Preston and Aubrey Rose Prieto. Bill graduated from Fortier High School in New Orleans and graduated from U.S.L. in Lafayette. He was a man of many self-taught talents and abilities. He built a 30-foot sea runner trimaran sailboat in his yard and launched it in Covington at Bogue Falaya park. He learned to fly small airplanes and continued throughout his life to be inquisitive about the world around us. He particularly loved to travel, England and Italy being his favorites. His main love and profession was building custom furniture from his shop in Mandeville. His beautiful furniture graced many of our major churches in Mandeville and the homes of so many friends and acquaintances. Many of his pieces will be considered as works of art. His love of good music led him to help out at the Dew Drop Jazz Hall in Mandeville, allowing him to meet many new friends. Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial and Celebration of life with music, food and drinks to be held at the Dew Drop Jazz Hall on Lamarque Street in Mandeville, Louisiana on Sunday June 10, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. His ashes are to be spread on Pisgah Mountain in North Carolina, his most beloved camping place off the Blue Ridge Mountains.
