William Pryor Shelhorse, age 79 of Mandeville, Louisiana went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 3rd, 2024.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Shelhorse and Thelma Mildred Shelhorse, grandson Nathan Corke, Son-in-law Darryl Kulick; Siblings Elaine Ennis and Robert Shelhorse.
William is survived by his loving wife Patricia Niedzialek Shelhorse; children Lisa Kulick, Laura Teoulet (Walter), William Shelhorse, Shane Shelhorse and Joel Shelhorse. Brother David Shelhorse. Grandchildren Meri, Sarah, Dakota, Makala, Shelby, Daniel, Devin and Joel Jr and great grandchildren Camryn, Aubrey, Luther, Leon, Kailani and Kaizen.
Born February 17th 1944 in Dallas, Texas to William Shelhorse and Mildred Pryor Shelhorse, he graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1962. William was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union for 30 years. Many years he worked with his father waterproofing buildings in the New Orleans area. In 1974 he purchased an 18-wheeler and began hauling gravel. He then went on to work for Watkins Motor Lines and Jay Lines.
In 1981, he moved to New York with his wife where he attended Genesee Community College and SUNY Brockport where he earned his B.A. degree in Education. He attended SUNY Geneseo to earn his Master’s Degree with dual certification in special and general education. He taught special education at Alexander Central School for 20 years and retired in 2012.
In 1984 he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at Kenner First Baptist Church. While living in Elba New York he attended Genesee Country Church where he served as a deacon and a team youth leader for 15 years.
In 2009 he joined the Gideons International where he passed out the word of God to hundreds of people. Upon returning to live in Louisiana, he joined Covington Gideon Camp and served as Chaplain, secretary, and Regional Gideon Card chairman.
He attended First Baptist Mandeville where he served as a door greeter and served Wednesday Night Dinners.
He loved the Lord, his family, handing out God’s Word, dirt track racing, traveling, puzzles, dollar bill origami, magic tricks and making people smile. In everything he did he gave it his all.
He will be missed by many.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday January 13, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Mandeville 1895 U.S. Highway 190 Mandeville, Louisiana 70448 with a Repass to follow.
