It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we must announce that William Atlee Colliver (Willie) passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024.
Preceding Willie in death were his beloved father William Thomas Colliver, and proud grandparents Elaine L. Miles- grandmother, Beverly R. Colliver-grandmother, William Colliver- grandfather and Gerald Marshall- step grandfather.
William Atlee Colliver (Willie) was born on March 20, 1980. He arrived with numerous birth defects and many doctors gave him little chance of a life with quality. At nine months old a genetic specialist told me to have him committed to a state institution since he would never walk, talk, know who I was and in general just simply exist. Not only were we determined, but Willie was determined to thrive from the start. To all who knew Willie it was plain to see the determination and love of life he exhibited. Not only did he eventually walk but loved to dance as well. He also could communicate using limited sign and verbal language. In his fashion, he played a guitar, keyboard and would sing. He never forgot who people were once meeting them. He loved to go fishing and ride in the boat with his step dad, Tom Marshall. As long as he was able to walk he wanted to be outside in his yard.
For nearly 44 years he radiated pure love to all he encountered and received their love in return. Willie will be missed tremendously but will never be forgotten by those who loved him and those he love unconditionally.
Willie is survived by his mother, Sandra Marshall and his step father, Thomas Marshall, Andie Marshall his step grandmother, Tom Hughan his uncle, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was truly an inspiration to family and friends to overcome any and all obstacles in life.
There will be a celebration of life in memory of Willie later in the spring or summer for all who would like to celebrate his life. Details will be given at a later date. Those who would like to honor his memory are encouraged to donate to STARC of Slidell. The caregivers at the STARC Center and Rock of Ages assisted living can only be described as angels on earth. Also, Hospice of Slidell was of great value when Willie’s health was failing him. Both organizations were a Godsend to his family.
