Valliere Joseph Dauterive Jr.

February 8, 1932 — April 3, 2025

Mandeville, LA

Valliere "Val" Joseph Dauterive, Jr., age 93, died peacefully at home on April 3, 2025. He was born in Chalmette, LA on February 8, 1932 to the late Valliere J. Dauterive, Sr. and Helen Mistrot Dauterive. Val was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Margaret B. Dauterive.

He is survived by three children, Ann D. Savoy, Suzanne D. McGuire (Paul), and Val J. Dauterive, III (Lynda), and was preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Marie Dauterive. Beloved grandfather to Amy S. Bradshaw (Brian), Zachary V. Dauterive, Jacob E. Dauterive, and step children, Michael P. McGuire, Luke A. McGuire (Hannah), Kevin P. McGuire (Laura), and Derek Kleinrichert, three great- grandchildren, Jack, Caroline, and James Bradshaw, as well as four step-great-grandchildren, Leo, Patrick, Elise, and Oscar McGuire.

Val was born and raised in St. Bernard Parish. He worked with his father in their business, Val J. Dauterive and Son, Inc., servicing fuel to the New Orleans area. He had a strong work ethic and expected that of all his employees. He was a member of the Thebian Fraternity in St. Bernard Parish. As an avid fisherman, he was blessed to see many beautiful sunrises over the waters of St. Bernard Parish, where he bravely fought every redfish of legal size. Val was a devout Catholic. He was a man of few words with a kind and generous heart. He could recite every car he owned, make, model, and year. When asked by a friend, "How are you doing, Mr. Val?", with his endless sense of humor, he responded, "I am slowing up, and I am only 91!"

Loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

The family is grateful to Home Instead and St. Tammany Hospice for their excellent care.
