Thomas Howard Tuttle

Thomas H. Tuttle, 85 of Slidell, LA passed away at 3: 45a.m on Monday June 12, 2023, at home. 

He was born on July 13, 1937, in Broadlands, IL., the son of Thomas Elmer and Edith Florence (Taylor) Tuttle. He married Linda Beccue on August 22, 1959, in Villa Grove, IL

Thomas is survived by his wife Linda; sister, Marlene (Jim) Millsap, children, Tedra T. Tuttle, Thomas T. (Barbie) Tuttle, and Trena T (Robbie) Tuttle-Nettle; Grandchildren, Cynthia N. Tuttle, Taylor G. Nettle, Alyssa B. Tuttle and Kresten (Greg) Brannum. His beloved dog Malibu and granddog Declan.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Mary Darlene.

Thomas was a member of the Village Lutheran Church in Lacombe, La.

Thomas graduated from Allerton, Broadlands, Longview (ABL) High School in 1955. After graduation Thomas served in the US Army with the 8^th Infantry Division in Germany.  He then married the love of his life Linda and enrolled at Eastern Illinois University. Upon graduation Thomas was a schoolteacher at Villa Grove for many years. He then worked for the Prudential Insurance Company until his retirement. Thomas continued to substitute teach and worked for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s department as a school crossing guard after his retirement.

Thomas loved life to the fullest and never met a stranger. Thomas could always be found visiting with the neighbors or tinkering in his garage or shed (he called it his doghouse). He was a skilled woodworker always creating lawn or holiday decorations for family and friends. He loved the challenge of taking broken and discarded small equipment and rebuilding them into working condition again. He also loved to do crossword puzzles and word searches to keep his mind sharp. He was a passionate sports enthusiast and loved watching football, baseball, softball, Illinois basketball and old westerns.

Thomas’s kindness and willingness to help others touched so many people. Thomas was loved by those that knew him and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Thomas will be interred at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, La.  A celebration of life will be held in Slidell and Villa Grove, IL dates yet to be determined.
