Thomas “Ed” Cleveland, III, a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana, peacefully passed away among family on June 4, 2024 at the age of 72. Ed was a native of Leesville, Louisiana. He joins his mother, Mary Avice Cleveland, in Heavenly eternal life.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Thomas E. Cleveland, IV (Dr. Megan H. Cleveland), daughter Catie S. Cleveland, and grandchildren, Thomas E. Cleveland, V and Zachary S. Cleveland. He is also survived by his former spouse and partner of 42 years, Beth F. Cleveland.
Dr. Cleveland was an internationally recognized plant pathologist at the USDA ARS Southern Regional Research Center for 31 years. He also served as the ARS Center Director for 6 years. He contributed to the food and feed safety field with over 300 research publications in his career.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed camping, gardening, hunting, cooking, and discussing science with his children and grandchildren.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Albany, Louisiana at 11 am on Saturday, June 29, 2024. A private family burial will follow.
