Susie Oakley Blackwell

August 12, 1922 — September 28, 2018

Susie Florene Oakley Blackwell passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018. Ms. Susie was a native of Mexia, Texas and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her husband Wiley L. Blackwell, her parents Ora Oakley and Lola R. Gore, a sister Grace Boulware and brother Chester “Bubba” Oakley. She is survived by her sister Sylvia Mattos from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and her good friend and caretaker Regina Bumgarner. Ms. Blackwell was a floral designer, owned her own business and made custom draperies until she retired. Even though she and her husband never had any children, they were parents and mentor to so many children of their friends and family. She was known to us as “Aunt Feni”. She will be truly missed. We are very grateful for the compassionate care received from the nursing staff, the CA’s and many others throughout her sty at Heritage Manor of Mandeville and the St. Catherine Hospice of LaPlace.  A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
