Stephen R. Meyer, M.D., 64, passed away on Dec. 19, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was born in New Orleans and lived in Mandeville for the past 30 years. Steve attended Jesuit High School, and attended Tulane University on a track scholarship. He held the Shot Put record for many years at Tulane. After graduating from Tulane, he then attended Tulane School of Medicine. After finishing medical school, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at Charity Hospital. He moved to the Northshore in 1984, and along with Richard Bessent, M.D., opened Surgical Eye Associates in Covington where they practiced together for over 30 years. He was active in many community endeavors, but none was dearer to him than his 21 years as a commissioner at Pelican Park. Seeing the park grow from a small sports complex to the first-class facility that it is today was a huge source of pride for him. Steve is survived by his wife, Sherry; three sons, Ryan, Jarred and Landon; a grandson, Hunter; two brothers, Malcolm and Conrad; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. His father, Conrad Meyer III, and mother, Andree Poillon, preceded him in death. Visitation for Steve will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Rd., Covington, LA 70435 from 1:OO PM until 4:00 PM.
