Shirley Ann Leblanc Bennett

Shirley Ann Leblanc Bennett, age 91, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her birth parents, Marcellus J. Leblanc and Amelia Dugries Leblanc, and her brother Hayward Leblanc. Shirley was born in Lockport, Louisiana, on October 16, 1932. At an early age she lost her mother, but was fortunate to have a second mother, Marie Gagliano Leblanc, who raised her as her own daughter.

Shirley graduated from John McDonough High School in June of 1950. On June 6, 1949, Shirley accompanied Arthur J. Bennett, Jr. to the S.J. Peters High School senior prom and from that time forward they were inseparable, leading to their marriage on August 9, 1953. From that union, they had three children, Judy Ann Bennett, Joseph M. Bennett (Claire) and Robert A. Bennett (Linda). Shirley had six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed watching sports, fishing, bingo and going to the casino. 

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Arthur Bennett, her sister Janet Leblanc Dannemann (Bill) and her sister-in-law Joan Leblanc. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Saint Jane De Chantal Church, 72040 Maple Street in Abita Springs, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with Mass starting at Noon.
