Shanon Smith

January 31, 1989 — May 10, 2019

Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light. - Albert Schweitzer.

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, grandson, nephew and father, Shanon Richard Smith. We welcomed him into this world on January 31st, 1989, the day after a very long night in the hospital; and he became a beacon of light and love in the heart of his family for 30 years. No one has had a brighter smile and eyes, or a hug that could fill your whole heart like his. Shanon had the sweetest heart, just like his daddy, a heart best appreciated and cared for by children. Growing up, Shanon had a creative imagination from the very beginning. He dreamed of becoming a superhero, then director, and next a writer; and then one day, in an instant, he became all three; he became a father to Aarilyn Kay Munro, on June 24th, 2010. His real life storybook princess came to life. And as her adoring superhero, his devotion was evident to all: he took her fishing, taught her “the most important things in life can’t be bought,” shared his passion for tools of all kinds and shared his love for the woods and all things small, especially Biscuit. Shanon served two years in the army, and received several medals and commendations for his service to this country during the Iraq war. Shanon was never afraid to serve his country or his friends, no matter the cost. You always felt safe standing next to him. Shanon didn’t always make the right choices, but as a man he was willing to admit that his decisions didn’t always turn out the way he had planned and that he had made mistakes in life. But his hope was not in living a perfect life, it was in putting his faith in a God that sees past all of those imperfections and loved him in spite of them. Shanon gave his heart to the Lord as a young child, and later as an adult, and God never gave it back. And now, although his time here is done, we know its not over; he has a new life, a new home in heaven; and one day we will be reunited with him, and there will be no more tears, no more sorrow, no more pain, only the joy in knowing that our time together will never come to an end. Shanon is survived by his loving daughter, Aarilyn Kay Munro, adoring parents, Shayne & Janeen Smith and Thomas & Debra Hunter Lannes, sisters, Sabrina Theresa Lannes and Katie-Scarlett Lisette Smith, and grandparents Lucille Hunter Duhe & the late Richard Hunter Sr. and Kay T. Tatham & Kenneth Tatham, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Please join us in our Celebration of Life Service in remembering, honoring, and sharing our love for Shanon on Friday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m.,in the Chapel of  Bagnell and Son Funeral Home 75212 hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana. Visitation and a time of gathering and viewing of memorabilia that represented his life will begin at 9:30 a.m. His internment will take place at 4:00 p.m., on May 25th at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold, Louisiana. Flowers will be appreciated and received for all services at Bagnell and Sons Funeral Home.
