Santiago Flores Strain was born into this world to Melissa Grace Strain and Agapito (Richard) Flores Santiago, at 7:34 a.m., on Friday, March 1, 2019. He was delivered by cesarean section, performed by Johnny W. Swiger, MD, and the amazing team of labor and delivery professionals at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was baptized into Christian brotherhood by Rev. Bonnie Poirier.
Santiago was six pounds and four ounces, and 17 inches long at birth. Santiago was born with anencephaly, but his little body was robustly strong. He was held in various loving arms, continuously throughout the 19 hours and 8 minutes of his life. At 2:42 a.m. on March 2, 2019, Santiago's perfect little spirit was reunited with his Heavenly Father. Santiago left behind a legacy of lifesaving through donation of his organs for transplant and research, assisted by the incredibly loving staff at Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA).
Through the generous donations of Savannah Smiles and Lorraine R. Bornio, Civil Law Notary, Santiago's earthly remains were cremated by Bagnell's Funeral Home.
The Flores-Strain Family expresses profound gratitude for the celebration of Masses and individual prayers offered in our name. We would like to thank all the people and agencies that provided physical, financial, and emotional support, letting us focus entirely on loving our baby. Your kindnesses made an inexplicably painful life event an endurable suffering.
