Ronald Peter (“Pete”) Yager, born on December 17, 1935 to Peter James Yager and Edith Slaughter Yager. At the age of 88, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, he embarked on his final journey, surrounded by his loving family and found solace in the embrace of Our Heavenly Father. Pete’s enduring love story spanned 64 years with his cherished wife, Mary Yager. Together, they weathered life’s storms and celebrated its joys. Pete’s legacy includes his devoted children: Ron Yager (Dione), Angie Barrosse, and Liz Peri (Ric). As a grandfather, Pete reveled in the joys of family bonds. His grandchildren—Andrew Vollenweider, Ryan Barrosse, Lindsay Rouquette, Ben Vollenweider, Amanda Popovich, and Peter Yager—were a source of immense pride and happiness. And as a great-grandfather, Pete’s heart swelled with love for Lucie, Cliff, Jack, Ellie, and Adrien. Pete’s life was a testament to love, leadership, and service. He dedicated himself to caring for his family, assuming leadership roles within his children’s schools, including the Jesuit High School Band Boosters, the President’s Advisory Council, and the Mount Carmel Academy Parent’s Club. As a proud veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard, Pete exemplified duty and honor. His commitment extended beyond military service; he also served as the President of the Grocery Manufacturers Representative Association (GMRA) during the 1980s. Professionally, Pete worked as a District Sales Manager for General Mills, Inc., leaving an indelible mark on the industry. His retirement in the late 1990s marked the end of a successful career. Beyond work, Pete enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies: hunting, fishing, tennis at City Park and Franco’s on the Northshore, square dancing, cruising, and world travel. The scenic drives along the Mandeville lakefront provided moments of reflection and beauty. An avid sports fan, Pete cheered for the local teams, especially the Saints, LSU, and Tulane. His unwavering faith guided him, echoing the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
