Ronald Elvin Bennett

March 29, 1937 — March 2, 2025

Devoted husband and father, Ronald Elvin Bennett, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family at the age of 87 on March 2, 2025. He was born in Lutcher, Louisiana on March 29, 1937 to Vernon Elvin Bennett and Mildred Gertrude Cotham.

He proudly served his county in the Korean Conflict as a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the 1st Cavalry Division.

He was a loving husband, beloved father, and very proud grandfather. A man of many talents, he was forever working with his hands fixing and modifying, he will be remembered by all as our "McGyver". He especially enjoyed working on his cars, boats, and John Deere mower. He and his wife of 63 years, Patsy, along with their children and extended friends and family, enjoyed many years of camping and boating, especially at "The Camp" on the Jourdan River in Bay St. Louis, MS. In later years, his interests turned to vegetable gardening, his goldfish pond, and creating a backyard "Happy Place" by building a gazebo, deck, and his man cave. Ronnie and Patsy's home became a gathering place for campfires, cornhole, laughter and love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred; his siblings, Patricia B. Mathas (Eugene) and Robert Vernon Bennett (KIA - Vietnam); his nephews, Eugene "Buddy" Mathas, Jr. and Darren Elvin Mathas; and his son-in-law Patrick G. Carrigan, Jr.

Survived by his wife, Patsy; their four children, Deborah B. Carrigan, Julie B. Grotte ("Nate"), Ronald E. Bennett, Jr. (Jennifer), and Laurie B. Thibodeaux (Wyatt) and grandchildren, Isaac Cook, Nathan Grotte, Jr. (Kristen), Ryan Carrigan, Meghan Carrigan, Wyatt Thibodeaux, Jr., Walker Thibodeaux, and Nicholas Bennett and a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your local Veterans support organization or Habitat for Humanity.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
