With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Robert "Croxton" Whitney on May 17, 2024. Robert lived a life rich in service, love, and devotion to his family and community. Born on November 1, 1930, he was the son of Robert Putnam Whitney and Irene Wilson Whitney.
Robert's dedication to public service began with his honorable service in the Navy, where he exemplified courage and commitment to his country. Following his military service, Robert embarked on a distinguished 43-year career with the New Orleans Police Department, serving with unwavering dedication and earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community alike. Along the way, he received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology.
In addition to his distinguished law enforcement career, Robert was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted musician, he found solace and joy in singing in the choir and strumming his ukulele, bringing harmony and melody to those around him. Robert's love for genealogy sparked a lifelong fascination with uncovering his family's roots and preserving their heritage for future generations. He also found great joy and fulfillment in the world of music and theater. An avid enthusiast of the performing arts, he cultivated a deep appreciation for the magic and emotion that could be conveyed through music and performance.
A true adventurer at heart, Robert found immense joy in traveling the world, exploring new cultures, and forging lifelong friendships along the way.
He was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Leurline Broussard Whitney, and a loving stepfather to Bonnie Guidry. Robert's legacy of love extends to his grandchildren, Kiley Guidry, Maria Conaway, and Bailey Hilton, and his great grandchild, Sophia Gilles.
Robert is preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel Belsom Whitney, his daughter Terry Whitney, and many loved ones.
Robert's legacy of selflessness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever remain etched in our hearts as we honor his life and the profound impact he made on our world.
