Robert Gordon Moran, 84, a former resident of Slidell, Louisiana, born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021 at home in Abita Springs, Louisiana, with his loving wife Terry by his side. Bob was the third of five children born to Alonzo Moran and Jeanette Entriken Moran, on July 27 1936 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Growing up in this coastal town, rich with wildlife and sunshine, his passion for sailing was cultivated by exploring the vast waterways and Gulf Islands of the region. He captained many vessels over his decades of sailing, but surely his pride and joy among them was the majestic, "Catbird Seat." He and Terry enjoyed donning foul-weather gear to chase after water spouts on Lake Pontchartrain as much as smooth sailing on sublime fair-weather days. They lived aboard for a time and shared many adventures together, as well as family journeys with the children throughout the Gulf of Mexico, Florida and the Keys, and the Virgin Islands. Captain Bob, as he was affectionately known, was a true Southern gentleman who enjoyed dancing, playing guitar, and singing Hank Williams' songs, among others. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, step-father, and grandfather. He served in the United States Army, was a graduate of Nicholls State University, and retired after a career with Allstate Insurance Company. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terry Larmeu Moran; three children, Robert Moran (Susan), of Reston, Virginia, Kelly Crouch (Bruce) and Erin Moran through his marriage to Delores Burdine; nine grandchildren, Alexander Moran, Madeline Moran, Scott Salter (Rachel), Kyle Crouch (Dominique), Eric Crouch, Rhett Crouch, Sophia Stonis, Isabel Stonis, Emery Stonis; four great-grandchildren, William Salter, Reese Salter, Jackson Salter, and Eva Salter. He was step-father to Kelly Holder, Teresa Rudzki (Mike), and the late Ralph Holder; Poppa to Johnathan Holder (Ginger), Elizabeth Campbell (Ryan), Sarah Holder, and Hayley Burke; step great-grandfather to Malayna, Rhett, Hampton, and Paxton Holder, Teresa Campbell and baby Maximus Campbell (due to arrive next month); and furbaby, Molly, his "Little Black Pearl." He was preceded in death by brothers Eugene, William, Alonso Moran, sister, Joan Jordy; and his parents. We dearly love and immensely miss our beloved Captain. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer's Association of Louisiana (https://www.alz.org/louisiana) are kindly requested.
