Robert Canty

d. June 27, 2020

Robert James “Capt. Rob” Canty, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, after succumbing to injuries sustained during a work-related barge accident. He was 40 years old, born July 31, 1979, and was a life long resident of Slidell, Louisiana. He leaves behind his precious young family including his wife of 12 years, Lauren Bankston Canty, and three children; Madeline, 20, Isaac James, 11, and Bailey Renee, 6. He is survived by his loving parents, John B. Canty III and Linda Dalleo Canty; brother John B. Canty; sister in law Tanya B. Canty; nieces Jasmine and Alexis; nephew Johnny V; and mother in law, Anne E. Bankston. He is preceded in death by father in law, Ricky J. Bankston and recently lost sister in law Amanda N. Bankston. Rob was a true Louisiana boy at heart, working on the water since the age of 12 when he began running his own crab traps. As a young man, he built his first boat by hand which led him to continue into a very successful career as a commercial fisherman. Self-made and highly respected by many, Rob was truly one of a kind. He was an incredibly hard working, devoted family man who was adored by all those he knew. There was no goal he felt he couldn’t achieve, and his drive and determination led him to being successful at many of his dreams – which never seemed to have an end. He was constantly striving for bigger and better things and was always able to surpass his goals. Rob wore his heart on his sleeve and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a beautiful, caring soul and those who knew him were truly blessed to be a part of his life. He could rarely be seen without his sidekick and number one student, son Isaac, who looked up to him as a father and a person. Rob set an amazing example to others and was always regarded as a hard worker with a never-ending drive and determination for success in everything he did. He will leave behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Taken too soon by a tragedy no one could have predicted; his death is more than just the loss of a great man. A legacy was lost the day we lost him; a legacy that was nowhere near over, and one in which we pray will continue to live on through his children. His drive and spirit will never be forgotten and may he be remembered forever in the hearts of all who knew him. As Rob was the sole provider for his family, a Gofundme account has been established to help his wife and children through these difficult times (https://gf.me/u/ybu54j). A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 9th, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post, 2031 Ronald Regan Hwy., Covington, La. 70433. Food and beverages will be provided through donations by local restaurants. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, everyone must wear a mask, and temperature checks will be taken.
