Perla Cousins

Perla Peralta Cousins of Covington, Louisiana passed away on September 14, 2022 at the age of 93.  Perla came from Nicaragua to America with her parents and younger brother when she was just 17 years old. She went right to work on learning English and becoming a citizen of the United States.

She worked many jobs in the New Orleans area over the years. Her first was in a cigar factory rolling cigars, later she worked at Russell Stover Candies, followed by sewing men’s ties.

Perla and her husband lived in Arabi for many years until his death in 2005. Later that year she moved to Covington after losing all of her possessions In Hurricane Katrina.  She was a devout Catholic and a great believer in baby Jesus.  She had a love for all animals and a real fondness of little babies.

Perla was known to donate to many charities and support many causes.

Perla is preceded in death by her loving husband Ervin J. Cousins, her parents, Leonidas and Cipriana Peralta.

Perla is survived by her brother, Alonso Antonio Peralta (Sylvia Dantin Peralta), nephews; Philip A. Peralta (Karen), Anrico A Peralta, Jude F. Peralta (Sandy), niece, Erinn E. Peralta, great nephews Matthew Peralta (Jessi), Dean Peralta (Madison), Reese Peralta (Brittany) and great great-nephew Ezra Peralta.

The family gives special thanks to all of her caregivers as they provided ease and comfort in the last years of her life and for that we are so grateful.

Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana 70435 with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery (Garden of Memories).
