It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Michael “Mikey” Tonagel at age 43 surrounded by loved ones after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. His battle showed his courage in facing challenges with a smile, and despite the pain, Mikey came out a hero and stayed strong till the end.
Mikey grew up in Abita Springs, LA. After graduating from Covington High, Mikey received a Bachelor’s Degree, eventually becoming a Coach/Teacher. His wife would say his greatest passion was coaching Gymnastics where he spent 25 years working with, inspiring, changing and shaping the lives of so many. But Mikey would say his greatest passion was spending all his time with the love of his life and their two beautiful boys. He enjoyed life being around friends and family, cooking, hosting parties, and boiling a mean pot of crawfish. The lives he has touched, and the friendships he made will leave an imprint that will be forever cherished and remembered.
Mikey will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Reanie, and their two sons, Trent and Brayden. His parents Danny and Kim Tonagel, sister Danielle Thiel, brother Vincent Tonagel ; In-Laws Collins and Belinda Tackaberry ; Aunts and uncles: Margaret Centanni, Sandra and Mark Bordelon, Jhon and Kevin Toups, Doreen and Joe Picone, Diana Tonagel, Debra Rivoire ; Cousins: Marcelle Duffau-Bordelon (Goddaughter) ; Gene and Ashley Centanni. Preceding him in death are his loving grandparents John (DD) and Audrey (MawMaw) Duffau; Cousin Anthony Joseph Gurtner; grandfather Ricardo Tonagel.
Mikey did not wish to have any services. However, A Celebration of Life will be held to honor him with the date, time, and place TBD.
