Michael Hymel

Michael David Hymel passed away on September 23, 2020, at the age of 68.  He is mourned by his long-time love and partner, Penny Fujiko Willgerodt, and all his family. Son of Judith Hymel and the late Milton Hymel. Brother of Cathy Hymel Peneguy, Mark Hymel, and the late Matthew Hymel. Loving father of Sabrina Hymel Bethurum (Greg), and Max Hymel (Jackie). Grandfather of Noah Hymel (Max) and Avery Bethurum (Sabrina).

He worked for years in the local construction industry, worked as a commercial shrimper and fisherman, and was known as the creator of his own seasoning blends and company.

Mike was a loyal friend.  Anyone who knew him enjoyed his dry wit and appreciated his extensive knowledge. Mike was a repository of Louisiana’s cultural traditions and his lifestyle honored the rich natural resources of the state. He was an ethical hunter, expert marksman and archer, avid outdoorsman, Bayoukeeper, beekeeper, musician, songwriter, oil spill cleaner, boatbuilder, and a master of various other arts and skills. He was considered a mentor by many.

Mike was happiest when spending time in the marshes near Grand Bayou and the swamps of Crown Point, Barataria, and Lafitte with his family or close friends. He will be painfully missed. Arrangements will be private (due to COVID) with the family.
