Michael George DiPadova fondly known to his family and friends as “Radar” passed away at home on January 13, 2021 in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by his family and friends.
Radar was born on March 13, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to his parents Raffaelo DiPadove and Ana Bayala while stationed there during his father’s military services. During his young life Radar experienced the world through his father’s travels overseas with the armed services. He was educated in parts of Europe and the US. He followed in the footsteps of his father and older brother and joined the military.
Radar was a Renaissance man. He had a passion for all thing’s music, cars, and motorcycles. He as a talented vocalist and could turn your head with his Elvis impression. He played Conga’s and with his wife and friends would have spontaneous karaoke jam sessions.
He rebuilt cars and, in his youth, raced stock cars and drove everything in one speed “fast”. He was the neighborhood car mechanic for his friends and family.
He loved riding and rebuilding motorcycles and had a few of his rebuilt Harley’s displayed in exhibitions. His fondest and cherished memories however were of riding his bike with his brothers from the club.
Radar was a Viet Nam Vet and past member of the VNV MC. He was a current and lifetime member of American Legion post 16, ABATE and Combat Vets. He was a member of the congregation at New Beginnings Church and also attended services at St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington.
Trough out Radar’s life he surrounded himself with a community of people that he was proud to call family. He was a devoted and loyal family man and husband. He cared and loved everyone he met and it wasn’t just in words but in deeds. He was a man of action. He always showed up when you needed someone. Not a man of many words but his presence filled the room. It was uncanny how he never had to speak a word but you knew that he cared.
A loving and devoted husband and step father Radar is survived by his wife Pamela Mitchell of Covington and his stepchildren, Taylor Anthony and Hunter Anthony and step grandchildren, Graham Anthony, Archer Anthony and Jacob Anthony who fondly referred to him as “Pops”. He was preceded in death by his father Raffaelo DiPadova, mother Ana Bayala, brother Christopher DiPadova and survived by his siblings Ralph Dipadova (Teresa), Frances Bitter and Mary Krentel (Jerome) and countless nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will begin at New Beginnings Church 29 Park Place Covington, Louisiana on January 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Southeastern Louisiana Veteran Home SELVH 4080 W. Airline Highway Reserve, Louisiana 70084 (recreational and welfare.
