Melvin Eugene Cooper, Jr. (Gene), of Slidell, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015. He was 61 years old.
He was the husband of Glenda Frierson-Cooper, father of Christopher Cooper (grandson Brandon), Crystal Cooper (granddaughter Ashley), and Troy Cooper (wife Marianne, grandson Aaron); son of Elva Rita Cooper and the late Melvin Cooper, Sr., brother of Ernest Cooper (wife Ginny), Roy Cooper (wife Darlene), and the late Darrell Cooper.
Gene enjoyed a full life before his illness. He grew up flying model airplanes and later earned his pilot’s license and joined the Slidell Experimental Aircraft Association. Later in life he achieved a personal goal of earning his own aircraft which he and his family members flew to various locations on the gulf coast. Additionally, he loved barbecues and crawfish boils with family and friends at his home and hunting and fishing on the river during camping trips.
Dedicated to the third-generation family business, Cooper’s Septic Tank Service, he worked diligently to uphold the highest standards in the work he loved.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of Gene’s life. This gathering will be held at the Pearl River Lion’s Club Den at 65062 Calhoun Street on Saturday, January 31st from 3 - 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to defray memorial expenses are appreciated.
