Mavis Canepa

October 22, 1937 — July 9, 2021

Mavis Cortez Brown Canepa passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 at the age of 83 at Ochsner Hospital in Jefferson, LA surrounded by family.  Mavis made everyone's life brighter just by being her amazing self.  We are so grateful for her and she will be greatly missed as an irreplaceable loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Mavis is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Charles B.Canepa, her sons, Stewart Brown, Jr, Barry Brown (Beth), David Brown (Sue), her grandchildren, Stewart III and Carley as well as many friends, nieces and nephews.

Mavis is preceded in death by her parents: George and Selma (Becker) Cortez, siblings, George Jr., Noel, Allen, and Lucille (Baltazar).

Mavis was a true New Orleanian, born and raised on Clematis St (Nola), and graduated from John McDonogh.  She always kept in contact with childhood and high school friends.

Mavis started at Sears in Gentilly as a retail part time clerk in 1971 and worked up to Michoud Credit Central Supervisor to retire in 1991.

Mavis loved her pets, fishing, Saints, gardening, The Lakefront, City Park, Holidays, Jazz Fest, and spending time with family and friends.

A Graveside services will at Greenwood Cemetery 5190 Canal Blvd #200, New Orleans, LA on Thursday July 22, 2021 at 10am.
