Mary Evelyn Gusler, also known as "May" or "May-May", died peacefully in her sleep at home on November 28, 2022 at the age of 48. Mary was born on December 19, 1973 in New Orleans and raised in old Metairie (Hog alley), where she attended Metairie Grammar, Haynes Junior High, and Riverdale High School, Class of 1991. After graduation Mary began working at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Radiology, and later at St Tammany. Her knowledge of medical terminology would intrigue her later in life to seek a degree in Medical Coding and Billing at the University of at Herzing, 2021. Mary was a ball of energy and full of play as a child, a trait she would carry throughout life. Always the jokester! The twinkle in her blue eyes and smile on her face filled the room when she entered. As the baby of the family, she followed in her big brother's footsteps wanting to do whatever they were into. Growing up a tomboy was evident. She enjoyed playing softball at Metairie playground where she made lifelong friends. Mary loved the Saints and was an avid Pink & Loretta Lynn fan. She enjoyed taking family vacations, hanging out with her friends at fairs and at local gatherings. It was in her character to make people laugh, that's who she was. She was a devoted mother and biggest supporter of her children, always helping and encouraging them to follow their dreams. She always said that her children were her greatest accomplishment. She was a member and supporter of the LGBT+ community. Life wasn't always laughs and giggles for our 5 ft friend, there were also times she had to face some hard truths and situations. But Mary faced it head on and overcame. Mary is survived by her mother and best friend, Jeanette Gusler; her son, Jakob Gusler, and daughter Alexis Wilbert (Joseph Parr); brothers Ellis (Trey) G. Gusler III, (Andrea), and Anthony (Tony) Gusler Sr. (Vicki); Nephews Ellis (Woody) G. Gusler IV (Tara), Anthony (Tony) Rodrigue (Christina), Gavin Gusler, niece Evelyn Gusler and Great niece Valentina Rodrigue along with a host of cousins and friends. Mary is preceded in death by her father, Ellis Gusler Jr., Grandparents Earl & Evelyn Mendel, Ellis & Mary Gusler & niece Sara Gusler. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in her honor on December 11, 2022 from 1:00-3:00p.m. (service to follow) at Woodlake Country Club, #82 Sequoia St., Kenner, LA 70065.
