Ms. Kopan died on July 4 from injuries received in a car accident. She was a native of St. Gabriel, LA, and a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge. She began working as a teller at City National Bank in Baton Rouge, and over the years became an officer at First National Bank of Commerce. She received a Masters Degree in English from LSU during this time.
Ms. Kopan was transferred to New Orleans by FNBC, where she met Linda Montgomery, who would become her partner for some 20 years. When they retired, they bought a home on the Wolf River in Pass Christian MS. Traveling to Europe and playing golf were their favorite past-times. Later in life, Ms. Kopan enjoyed creating pottery and playing percussion instruments with musicians at French Quarter and Bywater clubs.
Ms. Kopan is survived by her sister Ann Gilbert and brother-in-law Gene Gilbert, and six nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Inez Triche Richard; a brother, Selwyn Richard; and a sister, Sylvia Callihan.
Funeral services for Marilyn Richard Kopan will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at St. Anna's Episcopal Church,1313 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans.
Officiating will be The Very Reverend William H. Terry, and Canon Allison Reid. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be at St. Joseph Abbey and Monastery Cemetery in Covington.
