Louis “Lou” Joseph Casanave was surrounded by family and friends as he passed through death to everlasting life on Thursday, September 22, 2022. He was born on July 1, 1946 in New Orleans to Pedro A. Casanave Jr. and Grete M. Kretzschmar of the Philippines. Louis has 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Louis married his beloved wife, Cheryl Roubion Casanave on July 2, 1988, they were married for 35 years. Lou and Cheryl have 5 children, Peter Casanave, Tony Casanave, Gretchen Eisenburg, Georgette Taylor and Gina Simmons. They have 21 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Lou was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War, he is a member of VFW Post #8720 and #1782 and a member of the American Legion #16. Louis was very patriotic and loved serving and protecting his country. Louis was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church in Bush, Louisiana.
Upon leaving the Army, Louis would begin his career as a Certified Electrician on the offshore oil rigs for 50 years. After retiring Lou began his passion for teaching at the Northshore Votech School in Bogalusa, La., where he taught Electrical classes for 5 years. Lou loved his students. Louis enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, mechanical tinkering around the house and family time. Louis would laugh and say his hobbies were his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on September 29, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana 70435 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment to follow in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is accepting flowers and/or donations.
