Louis Mire

d. January 29, 2016

Deacon Louis N. Mire passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 29, 2016 at the age of 84. Mire was born in Madisonville, LA to George A. and Louise Badeaux Mire December 25, 1931. He grew up in the area across the river known as Houltonville, LA where he built Mire’s Marina in the mid 50’s and operated it until 1983. He was conscientious about running his business and took seriously the responsibility of the pleasure boats moored there. In 1987 Louis Mire was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans by Archbishop Phillip Hannan. He served mostly in his home parish of St. Anselm in Madisonville, LA. He also was a deacon at Our Lady of The Lake Church in Mandeville, LA for nine years in the 1990’s. Louis was a graduate of St. Paul’s College in Covington, class of 1952, where he was strongly influenced in study and conduct by the Christian Brothers. Their continuing friendship during his adult years was a great pleasure to him. He attended McNeese State College and played football, ran track, and generally enjoyed himself, making lifelong friends, until his graduation with a general Business Degree in 1956. Louis loved to talk, love to be around his friends and to make new ones. He particularly enjoyed telling of his growing up years with his five sisters and a brother and how they had much fun and all worked for their father. His exuberance was not always subdued during his interaction with people through his diaconate ministry. He spread the Gospel in his own special way.

Louis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janelle McLemore, and their daughter, Caroline J. Mire of Madisonville, LA; four sisters, Marilyn M. Pittman of Covington, LA. Joan M. Hisler of Marble Falls, TX, Janice M. Sharp of Mandeville, and Elaine M. Johnson of Marietta GA. Louis is preceded in death by a sister Miriam M. Camp and a brother George A. Mire Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, whose company he always enjoyed.  The family is especially grateful to Ameracare Hospice, caregivers Frenchietta Williams of Christwood Retirement Center and Bruce Haines of Home Instead for their loving attention in Louis’ final days and weeks.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, LA on  Wednesday February 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call after 11;00 am until service time.  Interment will follow in the Theo Dendinger Cemetery.
