Lorenza Holmes Knight passed away at home surrounded by family on April 29, 2021 at the age of 77. Holmes was preceded in death by his father Lorenza Knight Jr. , mother Rita North, his sister Kellen and his beloved Uncle “Butz” Laporte. He is survived by his wife Joan, sons Scott (Julie M.) and Casey (Julie A.), grandchildren Sayler Engler (Jared), Logan, and Gavyn, along with great grandchildren Grayson and Jameson Engler. Holmes is also survived by his siblings Lorrie, Keil, Kim, and Earl Thomas. He is also survived by Aunt Anita Laporte and cousins Leslyn, Craig, Kevin, Keith, Anita, Robyn, Reid, Marc, and Christine as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Holmes was born in New Orleans and lived his last years in Madisonville, Louisiana. He loved his family and had a full life. Along his journey, Holmes served in the Navy, graduated from Loyola University, traveled the world, and retired from the New Orleans Police Department as a Captain after 29 years of service. Holmes also helped smuggle bibles into China during missionary work, earned a Masters Degree, survived numerous medical conditions, and got to see two great grandchildren born before leaving us. He will be greatly missed.
“A Celebration of Life” service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 5:00 pm at Crossfire Church, 2020 Elsie Avenue, Slidell. LA. 70458.
