Lois Kathryn Brubaker Lahman, resident of Lacombe, LA peacefully entered into heaven on Sunday, January 29th at the age of 80 surrounded by her family and her cherished husband, Milford Gene Lahman.
Lois was born on August 9, 1942 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Jacob David and Reba Showalter Brubaker. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Howard Brubaker, James Brubaker (late wife Nona), and Sophia Martin; and stepmother Mary Deputy Brubaker.
She is survived by two siblings Helen Kurtz (spouse Ed) of Morgantown, PA and Doris Heatwole (late spouse Charles) of Bridgewater, VA; sister in law Miriam Brubaker of Olar, SC and brother in law Gerald Martin of Harrisonburg, VA; along with a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved so much.
Lois and Milford were married in Harrisonburg, VA on April 19, 1963. They were married just shy of 60 years, and their love story is extraordinary. They have 3 surviving children Michael Lahman (spouse Rae), Brenda Steudlein (spouse Paul), and Angela Perrin (spouse Brian); 6 grandchildren Tiffany Ave’Lallement (spouse Cody), Chad Lahman (spouse Emily), Justin Steudlein, Timothy Steudlein, Blake Perrin, and Blaine Perrin; and 4 great grandchildren Kaylee, Cassidy, and Cody Jr. Ave’Lallement and Chad “Mikey” Lahman Jr.
Lois, affectionately known as “Nan”, was the backbone of her family. She served Jesus all the days of her life, and her encouraging spirit blessed many people. If there was a need, Lois was always willing to step in. She loved her family immensely, and she made everyone feel loved, important, and valued. Nan was a most gracious hostess who regularly opened up her home for fellowship and discipleship.
During her life she accomplished many things. In their early married years, she and Milford spent time doing missionary work for the Mennonite church in South Texas.
Lois opened and owned her own table linen business for many years. She also worked as an office manager for a doctor‘s office and as an administrative assistant for NCM and Eastover Country Club in New Orleans where she retired in 2009.
Lois worked hard wherever God planted her, but her true life mission was to point others towards Jesus. Her life is an example of true Christian living, being led by God’s Word and basing all of her life decisions on the scriptures within. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on for a thousand generations.
