Lois Bergeron Folse, a lifelong resident of Gretna LA, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 90 years. Lois was a devoted wife of 71 years to the late Donald A. Folse, Sr., loving mother of the late Susan Folse, the late Daniel Folse (Laura), Peggy Folse, Donald Folse, Jr., (Rhea), Patty Adair (Glenn), Joan Kiddie, Nancy Licciardi (Michael), Walter Folse II (Ginger) and Nicholas Folse, daughter-in-law Nancy Jean Folse, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother to many, sister to Geraldine Richards, Irvin Bergeron, Bertha Bleuler, and Lynda Templet (Albert), sister-in-law to Rene Folse (Agnes) and the late Katherine Snelson (Wayne).
Lois was a loving and respected mother figure to her family as well as countless friends and neighbors. She did not hesitate to share advice when prompted and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing her extensive knowledge of plant life and tips with anyone who would listen. Her gardens were both beautiful and meticulous.
Lois graduated from Behrman High School in Algiers, LA. She was an academic who also excelled in sports, an interest she carried throughout her life. Lois had quite a competitive spirit as an athlete as well as a coach. She enjoyed playing tennis with friends. Lois was also adept in many types of ball games at family picnics, never conceding to the younger generations. She coached teams at her children’s school St Joseph in Gretna and at the Recreational Department of Gretna where she mentored many. Lois worked in various positions throughout her life, including being a public librarian and an insurance specialist/assistant in the medical field.
Lois’s priorities in life were her faith and her family. She prioritized a Catholic education for her family and mass attendance. Lois served as a Eucharistic minister at St Martha Church, participated in a rosary group and was a member of St. Martha’s Lady’s Club. Lois loved the large gatherings of family for holidays, special occasions, and for no reason at all. She often prepared delectable meals of the best seafood gumbo, roast, stuffed artichokes and mirliton dressing. Her talents also included making something out of nothing!
The family would like to thank Deacon Brian and Mrs. Sharon Soileau for their devotion to bringing Lois the Eucharist and their lovely visits. The family would also like to thank the staff at Sage Lake Senior Living Center in Covington, LA and the Egan Hospice Organization of Covington, LA for their compassionate care.
