Leila Longman

Leila “Florence” Longman passed away on February 5th, 2022, at the age of 81.  She was a native of Port Sulphur, and a resident of Pearl River.

Florence was born to her parents, Perry Coral Head and Ida Robin Head.  Florence married her childhood sweetheart and recently celebrated her 64th anniversary with her loving husband, Barton W. Longman. Florence is preceded in death by her children: Robin Longman Brewer, David Longman, and Buddy Longman.  She is also preceded in death by her siblings Lester Frank Head and Phillip Carl Head, as well as her son-in-law, Wyman Alderman.

Florence is survived by her daughter Laura Longman Alderman as well as her siblings, Jessie Perry Head, Danny Lee Head, and Harold Head Robin.  She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Heather, Trey, Jordan, Shawn, Jason, Travis, Whitney, Samantha, David Jr., and Katie.  She was blessed with 18 great grandchildren.

Florence was an incredibly caring home health nurse who won “Nurse of the Year” multiple times.  She was the cofounder of the Riverside 12 Step Club in Narin, Louisiana where she helped many people achieve sobriety.  Florence also provided support for several children in Haiti for many years.  She was an active member of Evans Creek Baptist Church in Pearl River, Louisiana.

Florence was an avid gardener and crafter.  She had an incredible green thumb, and she taught ceramics classes for years.  Her house had the best stairs, and it was a haven and playground for numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They remember Florence as being an adventurous, funny, animal lover.  Their nickname for her was “Maw Maw Chicken” due to her flock of chickens.  Florence had a knack for making everyone feel welcome.  She gave the best advice and was known for telling the truth with love.  She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family members.
