Larry Janssen, 71, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away on May 21, 2021. He was born in Peoria, Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Judith Janssen, Son Levi (Wesley) and grandchildren James, Anders, and Julia, Son of the late Richard and Maxine Janssen.
He enlisted in the Navy after high school and traveled the world by sea. Of all the cities he saw, one shifted his life’s course. His ship docked at the foot of Canal Street of Mardi Gras day, and as the saying goes, “the rest is history”. His career spanned 44 years in the Petroleum industry, working with SGS, Saybolt and Inspectorate. He was dedicated to his work and proudly taught and trained many individuals over the years. He was always willing to help and lend a hand to his co-workers and even those who worked for other companies. His approach to work led to earned respect from so many people in the industry.
Having recently retired, he was able to focus on the things he cherished most, first being his wife Judy. Together they supported and loved each other as best friends and soul mates. Larry doted on his dogs and tortoise (who has a palace of a house!) He was a fervent fan of both the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. His happiest of times were spent attending Saints games with his son and grandsons. Papa was a name he answered to proudly. Bringing his grandsons to racecar races and spoiling his granddaughter Julia were times they all cherished.
He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by his loving family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Vietnam Veterans of America.
