Keith Victor Wheeler of Slidell passed away March 14, 2022, at the age of 78. He was born on December 4, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Harold and Vivian Wheeler. After Harold retired from the Navy, the family settled in Florida where Keith graduated from Clay High School in 1962. Keith then went on to attend Florida State University and in 1968 he began his career with the United States Navy as an Aircraft Electrician. While proudly serving our country, Keith received his MBA from Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw, Georgia. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Navy before retiring in 1993 after 25 years of service.
A twist of fate and a blind date turned into a 39-year marriage to the love of his life, Christine. Keith enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends, traveling, collecting stamps, and reading. He was known to never shy away from having deep conversations about historical, political, and current events.
Keith is survived by his two sons Scott (Shelly) and Heath (Bridget) and was affectionately called “peepaw” by his 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Mark Wheeler (Kelly), sister Natalie Engle (Robert) and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years Christine Skowronek Wheeler; sisters Judi Hensley, and Lynda Haun and niece Tracey Pimenta.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at St. Joseph Abbey at 2 p.m. with Father Daniel Darmanin officiating.
Interment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery in St. Benedict, Louisiana.
