Kathleen “Kathy” Nunez passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 70 with her family and her best friend, Debbie Baudier, by her side. She was born on May 2, 1954, in New Orleans and was a resident of St. Bernard Parish for the past 18 years. She was the daughter of the late George and Hermina Conrad and the sister of the late George Conrad, Jr. (Bea) and the late Donald Conrad (Carmen). She was the mother-in-law of the late Sean Chesnut. Kathy is survived by her former spouse of 32 years, Sidney Nunez, who together shared a daughter, Holly Chesnut, and two grandchildren, Randen and Ryan Kate Chesnut.
She graduated from Holy Angels in 1972 and began working in the banking industry soon after. Throughout her career, she played a significant role in the development of the Education Services department at several banks before retiring from Gulf Coast Bank and Trust in January 2025. In her younger days, she had a passion for fast cars, horseback riding, fishing, floundering, and crabbing. She could often be found in the waters of Lake Pontchatrain enjoying the camp life in Little Woods with family and friends.
The light of Kathy’s life was her daughter, Holly. From late nights at the ballpark watching Holly play softball to all the shopping trips they enjoyed together and even living together for the past 12 years, they had such a loving, supportive, and unbreakable bond. They were each other’s rock. Kathy was the most devoted mother who truly lived her life for Holly and her grandchildren.
Not only was Kathy a proud mother, she was so proud and honored to be a “Nana” to Randen and Ryan Kate, who she lovingly referred to as “Boo” and “Sis.” Randen was constantly making Nana laugh, and their favorite times together were their date nights to Texas Roadhouse. Nana loved her shopping sprees with Ryan Kate. Ryan Kate always said, “Nana has the best style.” Nana had such a positive impact on their lives and played an influential role in molding them into the young adults they are today.
Kathy was most known for her flawless beauty, gorgeous, white hair, and her big, beautiful smile. Not only was she beautiful on the outside, but she was beautiful on the inside. Kathy was the kindest, sweetest, and the most selfless woman. To know her was to love her. We will endure a lifetime of missing her for the privilege of loving her.
