Karen McArdle Monk, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, faith, and creativity. Born on February 13, 1950, Karen lived a life rich in purpose and connection, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
A graduate of Holy Angels High School, Karen embarked on a career at Shell Oil Co, from which she retired. She was known for her deep commitment to her community, particularly through her service at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Covington, Louisiana. As a Lector and Catechism teacher, she imparted her faith to others, nurturing the spiritual growth of many within her congregation.
In her personal life, Karen was a creator, finding joy in crafting pottery that expressed her artistic spirit and brought warmth and beauty to the world. A lover of family vacations, she cherished the moments spent with her beloved husband, Ray Monk. Together they celebrated 41 years of marriage on February 18, 2025, exemplifying a partnership rooted in love, commitment, and mutual respect.
Karen's vibrant life was also enriched by her roles as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Fonseca Simmons (Patrick), Crystal Monk Stewart (John), and Michelle Robicheaux (Kasey). Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
She is also remembered by her siblings, Gaynell McArdle Nelson and Adele McArdle Jefferys, who, alongside her children and grandchildren, carry forward her spirit of kindness and resilience. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Owen Joseph McArdle Sr. and Adele Brummet McArdle, as well as her siblings, Lynda McArdle Douglas and Owen Joseph McArdle Jr.
Karen will be missed greatly by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will take place at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd, Covington, LA on February 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass to celebrate her life. A private family burial will follow.
