On Thursday, March 28, 2024, Karen Ann Mathes passed away peacefully at the age of 71. Karen was preceded in death by her father, James Joseph Mathes, Jr., and her brother, Rick James Mathes. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Alphonse Mathes, and beloved niece, Kayla Nicole Mathes.
Karen was a proud graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School and remained an active alumnae for the class of 1970. She graduated from Touro School of Nursing and Charity School of Anesthesia. She started her career as a Registered Nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital and went on to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Parish Anesthesia. Karen worked for many different hospitals throughout the New Orleans area including Charity Hospital, Omega Hospital, and West Jefferson Medical Center. She was a talented, well respected Nurse Anesthetist for over 40 years. The spirit of New Orleans was truly a part of Karen as she loved all local festivals, Mardi Gras, and cheering for the Saints. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to David Siebenkittel, Karen Molero, the staff of Forest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and St. Catherine's Hospice.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement of Rome Church 3978 West Esplanade Ave. Metairie, LA on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Visitation begins at 10:00am followed by Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at St. Louis # 3 Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
