Kala Thomas Corcoran, of Covington, passed away on Monday June 21, 2021 at the age of 73.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margie Thomas, her brother, Gregory Thomas and her aunt, Johnnie Marie Patrick.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Colin Corcoran, Sr., whom she met while attending Newcomb College.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, David Corcoran (Debra), Thomas Corcoran (Rhonda), John Corcoran (Ana Karina) and Lauren Corcoran (Jeremy Hutchinson). She leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, Devon Davis (Forest), Sophia, Kylie, Sebastian, Madeline, Robert, and Olivia. She also leaves behind three beautiful great-grandchildren Xavier, Evelyn Ivy and Saoirse Rose. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and all the young people she nurtured over the years who affectionately called her “Momma Kala”. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Kala was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a talented artist and had a perpetual tenacity for learning and expanding her knowledge. She enjoyed painting, weaving baskets, making brooms, crocheting, sewing, quilting, creating pottery pieces and hand hooking rugs. She was a Master Gardner and an active member of the Garden Club. She loved to cook and enjoyed teaching her family her cherished recipes. She was a kind, patient and loving person who always saw the best in people.
Kala will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Barrancas National Cemetery.
There will be a memorial celebration honoring her life and legacy at a later date. Her friends and family will come together to share their cherished and most coveted memories of her.
