Judith "Judy" D Hahn

January 7, 1945 — March 25, 2025

Covignton, Louisiana

On March 25, 2025, Judith Diane Sarga Hahn, 80, passed away peacefully after many years suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 7, 1945. She is preceded in death by her father, Michael Sarga, mother, Nellie Bell and brother, Michael James Sarga. She leaves behind her loving soul mate, Chris Hahn Sr., two step sons Chris Jr. (Susan) and Brett (Kathy), four step grandchildren, one great grandchild and many close friends. Although she had no children of her own, the rearing of her stepchildren and step grandchildren was important to her.

Judy graduated from Jackson Memorial School of Nursing, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She then entered anesthesia school and became an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and practiced as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) until retirement.

For those who worked with Judy in the operating room suite, she was truly caring, methodical and intelligent in all of her decision-making. These qualities are essential attributes necessary from the anesthetist who holds your life in the palm of their hands.

In her free time, she loved her horses and owned a horse from the time she was 11 years old until her illness. She competed in many three day eventing competitions and won countless ribbons. She also loved her dogs. Between the number of horses and dogs she owned, she had quite a following of four legged animals who loved her dearly! She received great peace at her home walking in her pasture, taking in all the beauty of the land that was hers. In addition to squirrels, birds and any other living creature, she fed them and enjoyed contentment in just watching them.

She was an avid reader and had a library that contained books on various subjects…a library of beautiful books. Chocolate was her vice and she would choose to eat it first before any part of her meal. When working as an anesthetist, she always had several Ghirardelli Squares of chocolate in her pocket, along with her hands, for she was ALWAYS cold.

She was quite witty, with sarcastic, humorous, quick comebacks. And along with those facial expressions, her eyes told the story. An example of her wit is a page she added to her Living Will which reads, “When the determination is reached that I won’t ever get better, I hereby instruct my appointed person and attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes, let the ‘fat lady sing’ and call it a day!”

A memorial will be held at Bagnell and Son Funeral Home of Covington on Saturday, April 12, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM with a chapel service at 11:00 AM.

The family would like to thank nurses, Candice McCain and Renee Lowder from St. Anthony’s Gardens for their excellent attentiveness and care they showed Judy throughout her stay! Also thanks to her private sitters, Renea, Tracy, Stacy, Dawn and Owinda for anticipating and following through on her needs, as well as truly understanding the progression of this disease. Phil, with Harmony Hospice, was always a step ahead of her condition, helping her to be kept comfortable in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House in Judy’s memory. Donations can be made at
