Joseph Meadows

Joseph (Joe)  Bennett Meadows, age 96, passed away peacefully into the arms of God at his home in Bush, Louisiana on March 30, 2020.  He was born on June 24, 1923 in Fullerton, Louisiana with most of his growing up years spent in nearby Bunkie, Louisiana.  He was a WWII veteran serving in the South Pacific with the 73rd Naval Construction Battalion better known as the Seabees.  After serving, he returned to his home town of Covington where a few weeks later he met Bernedette Ryan (Bernie) who became the love of his life and wife on March 30, 1946.  He was a television and radio technician and was known for his great gift of making anything work.  He and Bernie raised their two girls in Metairie, Louisiana, later moving to Gentilly Woods in New Orleans with their final residence being in Bush, Louisiana after losing their Gentilly home to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  He loved the country life and enjoyed a simple way of living with gardening, singing the blues and country music while playing his guitar, taking care of his animals and loving his family.  He had a wonderful zest for life and always found some new venture to explore and enjoy from having an organic garden before they were popular to building his first video camera before one ever hit the market.

Joe leaves behind his wife of 74 years, Bernedette (Bernie) Meadows, two daughters, Kathy Ledoux (the late Karl Ledoux) of Bush, Louisiana and Joanne Dornak (Greg) of Conroe, Texas, grandchildren, Michael Bourg, Joanne Bourg (Paul), Kelly Baker (Ryan) and great grandchildren, Michael Bourg, Jr., Kelsi Riche, Ryan Tyler, Jake Baker and Rylan Manger.  He leaves behind one niece, Linda Hopper (Jerry) of Vidor, TX and Charles (Butch) Adams of Tennessee.   Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Cassie Meadows of Covington, Louisiana, sister, Lela Baron of Bush, Louisiana and grandson, Kyle Kenny of Conroe, TX.

Due to state mandated orders surrounding the COVID-19 virus, a graveside burial service for immediate family members only will be held on April 7, 2020 at Waldheim United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers kindly donate to your charity of choice.
