Johnnie Isbell, Jr.

My Sweet Johnnie Cortez, the absolute love of my life, is now with his Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was at home, surrounded by his 6 beloved children and adoring wife, when Jesus came and wrapped His loving arms around him.  He was taken to his eternal home in paradise during the late evening hours of February 5, 2020. John was 77 years old and is survived by his loving and devoted wife, AnneMarie Boucher- Isbell; his only daughter, Gina Louise Isbell, (Karen Springer); and his 5  sons, John Jacob Isbell; Clifton Mark Isbell; Bryan Michael Isbell; Joseph Daniel Isbell; and Keaton Joseph Cortez Boucher-Isbell. His grandchildren are Austin Isbell; Connor Isbell; Caleb Isbell; Brookelyn Isbell; Ashelyn Isbell; Caitlyn Pittman; Eden Isbell; Alexis Benoit; and Taylor Isbell. His only great-grandchild is Kamila Isbell. He is also survived by his father-in-law and dear friend Carl L. Boucher Jr.; and sister in law Noelle Boucher Young (Trey), as well as his cousin by marriage, Colleen R. Turner. He was the beloved "Tio" of Christian Ryan Turner; Jackson Henry Young; Jude Landry Young; and Olivia Quinn Rooney as well as many other nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Cortez Isbell Sr. and Vivian Ilene Driver as well as his brother, James Elliot Isbell; and sisters Vivian Isbell Stein, Billie Isbell Falkenberg and Betty Isbell Stringer. John was also the much-loved son-in-law of the late Cynthia Miller Bouchér; and grandson-in-law of the late Eleanor Landry Miller. John was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and dementia several years ago, and also battled prostate and bladder cancer as well as liver cancer. John selflessly and courageously served his country as a 4-year member of the United States Navy. During his service, he was exposed to the chemical Agent Orange, which led to many of the illnesses he battled later in life. Upon completing his military service, he took another oath to serve and protect his fellow men and women by becoming a member of the New Orleans Police Department. He bravely and proudly completed 20 years of service in law enforcement, earning many accolades throughout his tenure, including naming the Crime Dog McGruff and implementing the Neighborhood Watch Crime Prevention Program. Following his retirement from the NOPD, John continued to work in loss prevention and served as Head of Security for such companies as the Hotel Intercontinental, The Fairmont Hotel, Hill-Behan Lumber Company and Freeport McMoRan. John was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.  John’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Faye Miller Cabirac, his aunt by marriage, who was at his side during the entire month he was receiving hospice care at home. A retired, registered nurse, Faye was an absolute godsend and the family could not have taken such excellent care of him without her assistance.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Albert's Catholic Chapel located at 409 W. Dakota Street in Hammond, LA 70401, on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
