John (Johnny) James Coyne, The Gator man was a lifelong resident of Covington,La.  He was born in Bogalusa, La to the late Jacob Irving & Ethel Byers Coyne. Johnny passed away at the age of 77 peacefully in the home that he and his wife built their life together in.


John is survived by his wife of 56 years Lenore (Nora) Coyne, His two children Penny (Ken) Crouch, and Leonard (Ellen) Knight, and his Grandchildren Cindy (Dwayne) Pittman, Cassy (Matt) Gayman, Brittany Jackson, Reagan Crouch, Brandi Darensburg, his great grandchildren; Cameron Welch, Savannah (Tyler) Comeaux, Alexandra Pittman, Sebastian Garafola, Ava Garafola, Skyla Jackson, Aaliyah Darensburg, Kajah Jackson, Easton Jackson, Akeam Darensburg, Addison Darensburg and his great great grandchildren, Johnathan Comeaux, Brielle Comeaux, his siblings Mike (Debbie) Coyne, Gregory (Gail) Coyne, Maryann Wolfort, Dianne Edwards, and sister in law Wilidean Coyne as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


 He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob & Ethel Coyne, his siblings, Jacob Coyne, W.E. Coyne, Eulene (Donald) Spell, Joan (Alvin) Sharp, Jerry Coyne Sr., Patsy Coyne, Betty Coyne, brother in law Charlie Wolfort and two nieces Pam Sharp, and Melynda Coyne and  his beloved granddaughter Jami Knight.


Johnny was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family and having family get togethers. Over the past few years Johnny has spent his time caring for his wife, and making sure that every Sunday he spends all day watching Jimmy Swaggart's ministries on the television. Johnny also spent the last 20 years faithfully donating every month to the St.Jude foundation. 

In his younger years he enjoyed coon hunting, camping, and taking his kids to the river. He was employed by Prestress for a number of years and helped build the 24 mile causeway, and retired from the Alligator Farm Pelts and Skins where he worked for 25+ years.


Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday March 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Shepard’s Care Ministries 20115 LA-1082 Covington, Louisiana 70435. Burial to follow in the Bruhl Cemetery.
