John Robert Hayes Jr. was born on January 11, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana and resided in Mandeville, Louisiana for 30 years. He passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. John led a fulfilling life, marked by a dedicated career at Jefferson Parish Waterworks from which he retired.
He served in the US Navy, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and service to his country. John had many interests; he loved fishing and cherished spending time with family and friends. He was known to be a frequent visitor at Rouses in Mandeville and Burger King in Covington, where he enjoyed meeting up with family and friends for coffee and breakfast. John was also a active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
John is survived by his children, John J. Hayes (Angel) and Wayne G. Pfeiffer (Ginger). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Andrea Vanderhorst, Lonnie Kahoe Jr., Dylan Hayes, Wesley (Deishon) Pfeiffer, and Heather Pfeiffer. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Jackson Vanderhorst, Owen Vanderhorst, Cameron Pfeiffer, and Jayden Pfeiffer as well as his brother Marvin Pickle.
John was preceded in death by his beloved spouse of 47 years, Carol Ockman Hayes. He was also reunited with his parents, John R. Hayes, Sr. and Elizabeth Hearn Hayes Higgins, as well as his siblings, Helen P. Giardina, Elizabeth Lasavia, Vivian H. Dietze, Addie H. Nemeth, Goldie H. Meunier, and Janette Pickle.
His life will be honored with a Visitation on March 8, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service that will begin at 10:00 AM, all taking place at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana. Burial to follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
John R. Hayes Jr. will be remembered for his warm spirit, love of family, and the countless memories shared with those he cherished.
