February 3, 1934 — January 4, 2021

John Blaise Habisreitinger, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2021, surrounded by his family.  He was born February 3, 1934 in New Orleans to John Baptiste Habisreitinger and Marguerite (Rita) Ernst Habisreitinger.  Raised in Old Metairie, he was a resident of Laplace and parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for the last 52 years.  John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucretia (Kia) Habisreitinger; four children: John Blaise Habisreitinger, Jr. (Juanita), David Bryan Habisreitinger (Margaret), Kia Mary Habisreitinger and Ann Habisreitinger Barré (Emile); and eight grandchildren: Haleigh, Juliana, Heather, Emily, John III, Blaise, Hannah, and Ethan.  He is also survived by his sister, Mary Louise Habisreitinger Lacoste, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was a graduate of St. Aloysius (now Brother Martin) High School and was a member of their first City and South Louisiana Championship football team.  He attended Louisiana State University and was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Army.  He retired after more than 4 decades with Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation and LaRoche Chemical.  John was a long-time little league baseball coach, served on the school board for St. Charles Catholic High School, and was one of the founders of the St. Charles Catholic High School Quarterback Club.  John was also an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, as well as an owner/advocate of thoroughbred racehorses.  Due to COVID, the immediate family had a private Mass and Christian burial at St. Joseph’s Abbey in St. Benedict, LA.  A memorial will be scheduled for a later date.  The family would like to thank Dr. Randal Poche, Karen Ellis, Dr. Crystal Jeniece Singleton, Sarah Lebeau, RN and Phillip Kulas, RN for their care and compassion for John in his last days.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
