Jarold "Jerry" Schmolke, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in his hometown of Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 80. Born on January 22, 1944, in Covington, Jerry lived a life filled with service, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Jerry was a proud Army veteran who served his country with honor. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career in the construction industry, working at Prestressed in Mandeville, LA, where he played a significant role in building the northbound bridge. He also contributed his skills at Balehi Marine in Lacombe, LA, before it closed, followed by his time at Trinity Marine in Madisonville, LA. After years of hard work and commitment to his profession, Jerry retired in 2010, leaving behind a legacy of his craftsmanship and dedication to the field.
Outside of his professional life, Jerry found joy in various hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, often spending his days exploring nature's wonders. Gardening brought him great satisfaction, as did cooking, where he would delight in sharing meals with friends and family. His vibrant spirit and love for life were evident in everything he did.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Patty T. Schmolke, and children: Jared and his wife Emily, Kacie and her husband Kris, Clayton and his wife Laurel, Judy and her husband Steve, Bridgette and her husband Brett, and Carol and her husband Wayne. He also cherished his grandchildren, including Taylor, Riley, and Lorelei Schmolke, Andrew and Tristan McLain, Raven and Weylan Molley, Adeline Quave, T.J. Trantham, Amber Schmolke, Samantha West, and Karlie Gordon, and Patiense Morris, all of whom will carry on his memory.
He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Pitts, and brothers Chuck and Buddy Ruberts. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Edward J. Schmolke, Sr., his mother, Josephine Walters Schmolke Fitzmorris, and his siblings, including brothers Edward, Jr., John Albert, Terry, Frank Schmolke, and Raymond Fitzmorris, sister Margaret Ruberts, as well as his father-in-law Lawrence Taylor and mother-in-law Amanda Caroline Taylor, and brother-in-law Paul Boudreaux and sister-in-law June McLain.
Jerry's life will be honored at a funeral service held on January 4, 2025, at New Zion Baptist Church in Covington, LA, starting at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 9 AM and burial to follow at William Sharp Cemetery in Bush, LA. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him.
