James (“Jimmy”) B. Whatley II, of Mandeville, passed away Wednesday (November 18, 2015) at his home. He was born July 14, 1950, in Mobile, Alabama, the son of James Whatley Sr. and Mary Blalack Whatley, both of whom preceded him in death.
Jimmy’s journey through life included becoming a master scuba diver, a boat captain, and an entrepreneur, but most importantly becoming a father to his children James, Christopher and Jackie, and to his stepson, Micah Reeves.
He exposed his family to the world. Whether it was taking road trips across the U.S., exploring the ruins of Guatemala and Mexico, or taming a bunch of wild Cub Scouts on a camping trip, Jimmy always preferred the trail less traveled.
In addition to his children, he will be sadly missed by his siblings, Diane Hoggle, David Whatley, and Kim Patterson; his former spouse and friend, Charlene Loo-Whatley; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation , one of Jimmy’s favorite organizations.
Please feel free to watch the Memorial Video and sign the guestbook.
