After the war he returned to Mississippi to attend the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a BS degree in Chemistry. He worked at Sterling Drug in Gulfport, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Toronto, and Ireland. He also joined the Mississippi National Guard and retired as a Colonel. He would return to his favorite beaches along the Atlantic coast year after year, he loved exploring our nation’s famous landmarks and national parks, and enjoyed traveling abroad as well. Mr. Harry was also an avid golfer, playing regularly well into his 80s, and was proud to have played many of the best courses in the country. He also loved all types of fishing, fresh water fishing for bass in a small boat, fly fishing in the mountains of New England, and salt water fishing on the Mississippi Sound. He was a creative gardener, working hard to graft new camellia flowers. He even brought his favorite camellia from Mississippi to Connecticut, but was unsuccessful in nursing it though the cold winter. Mr. Harry loved his life with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with family members eating out or watching the Saints play. He was an animated storyteller, often sharing stories of his younger days on the Gulf Coast. He was quick to enter into conversations with new people he met and had a ready smile for everyone. His determination and optimism guided him through the many tough situations he faced during his life. His life values of hard work, honesty, and trustworthiness will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The Jones and Johnson families would like to thank the staff at The Trace, the staff of Canon Hospice, and the MaxCare nurses in Covington, Louisiana, for their loving care of Mr. Harry and their support to the family.
