Harold Joseph Schwartz Jr. died peacefully at 95 years young on May25, 2017. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served in the Navy as a Seaman Second Class and humbly shared his stories with family and friends. In later years he enjoyed reminiscing and travelling to his ship reunions and he was a faithful participant in the LA Veterans Festival in Slidell Louisiana along with other veteran community events.

Harold was born in New Orleans, LA to Harold Joseph Schwartz Sr. and Florence Schwartz Spiess . He resided in New Orleans until relocating to Slidell after Hurricane Katrina.  He was preceded in death by his two siblings Albert Schwartz and Doris Queyrouze.

He  is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Janice Mirabella Schwartz from Youngstown OH. He was a patient and loving father to Paula Schwartz Powell (married to deceased Henry "Herb" Powell) and Timothy Schwartz. He enjoyed being called PawPaw and making cherished memories with his grandchildren: Tiffany Powell Higgins, Damien Powell (Robin), Lauren Powell, Michael Schwartz (Brandy), Eric Schwartz (Amanda).  He has 9 adoring great-grandchildren: Robert "Trey" Higgins III, Brennan Higgins, Aurora Powell, Jacoby Powell, Marlee Powell, Aiden Schwartz, Alyssa Schwartz, Sperry Schwartz, Harley Schwartz. A host of nieces and nephews will miss him greatly.  Harold was the owner of S&M Ornamental Ironworks and was noted for his honesty, hard work and beautiful designs which grace homes and other sites in the French Quarter. He was a past commander and adjutant of the American Legion Post 333. He was instrumental in retiring his post which was active from 1945 until 2015. He enjoyed participation at St John of the Cross Catholic Church in Lacombe LA and became a member of the Alex Semel Council Knights of Columbus 12989. He was a blessing to his parish family and described as a kind and unselfish man that could always be counted on for a helping hand. His last words of endearment to his family were "My whole life, I tried to take care of everyone."

Visitation followed by service will take place at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Lacombe, LA, beginning at 9:00 on Wednesday May 31, 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mass will begin promptly at 10:45.   Interment will take place at 2:00 at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. In lieu of flowers the family requests masses and donations may be sent to benefit the Veterans Memorial Fountain Fund to Rev. Father Timothy Pugh, Knights of Columbus Assembly 1635, PO Box 5937 Slidell LA 70460. Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, Covington, LA in charge of arrangements.
