Gerald Anthony Lyons, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on September 22, 2023 at the age of 84. Gerald graduated Holy Cross High School in 1957, where he was a State Champion Wrestler. Gerald later graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelors in English in 1972.
Gerald joined the United States Army and was a Veteran of the United States Army with a rank of Specialist 4th Class. After his service in the United States Army, he was employed by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, from which he retired in 1990 as a technician and a member of the Communication Workers of American Union.
Gerald enjoyed writing and authored a book of Poetry called “Lyons of Madness.” His other hobbies included listening to Rock and Roll Music, especially the Beatles, and watching New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers Football. Gerald was also a lover of running to which he was a long-standing member of the New Orleans Track Club.
Gerald leaves behind to cherish his loving memories, his loving wife of 64 years Josephine Marchese Lyons, his son US Marine Corps Veteran and Retired US Army Veteran Gerald M. Lyons, his daughter-in-law Tian Lyons, grandson Anthony Lyons United States Air Force Academy, and his granddaughter Vivian Lyons University of Tennessee. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories his brothers, US Air Force Veteran Gilbert Lyons, US Air Force Veteran Glenn Lyons, his brother-in-law US Army Vietnam Veteran Herbert Marchese, his nephews; US Marie Corps and retired US Navy Veteran Michael Lyons, Neil Lyons, Wade Hicks, Leon Hicks, Paul Lyons, and his devoted friend and sister-in-law Patricia Frischhertz Arnold.
Gerald is preceded in death by his father Frederick A. Lyons, mother Adeline Gautier Lyons, his brothers Frederick Lyons and David Lyons, his sister Glenda Lyons and nephew Gilbert Lyons.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice for their love and care.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service and Celebration of life on December 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery 75376 River Road St. Benedict, Louisiana 70457.
