Frederick J. Goodyear, a resident of Mandeville, LA, passed away peacefully at St. Tammany Hospital on December 23, 2015. He was 80 years old. Mr. Goodyear was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Frederick and Margaret Makem Goodyear and eldest brother to James and Michael Goodyear. He graduated from William Penn Charter School. In his youth, he was a star football player and State Champion in 1954 and 1955. He was highly recruited and played football at Temple University and for the Navy.
Mr. Goodyear enjoyed a successful professional career and was known for his strong business sense and sales ability. He spent 25 years with Magnolia Marketing Company in New Orleans as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. During that time, he received several awards from the Louisiana Restaurant Association. In 2000, he received the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the LRA. He retired shortly thereafter and moved to Boca Raton, FL, to be close to his family and enjoy the warm tropical climate. He moved to Mandeville, LA, at the end of 2014.
In 1967, Mr. Goodyear married his first wife Patricia A. Goodyear, and they had two daughters, Lisa Goodyear Murphy and Jennifer Goodyear. In 1990, he was remarried to Susan Decker Goodyear until 2014. He gained two stepdaughters, Suzette Hernandez and Shannon Boueri. He was the proud father of all four girls and is survived by Patricia, Susan, his daughters, a nephew, and six grandchildren.
Fred Goodyear will be remembered as a fun-loving man who lived life to the fullest. He made an impression on all who met him. His sense of humor, and unique one-liners, were just a couple of his most endearing qualities.
A memorial service will be held at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home located at 75212 North Lee Rd., Covington, LA, on February 20, 2016 with visitation beginning at noon, service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donation information can be found at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Mr. Goodyear’s funeral will be held at a later date in Cambridge, MD, as he wishes to be buried next to his brother, James Goodyear.
